(BLOOMINGTON) - A 21-year-old woman reported Sunday she’d been raped in a hotel room by a man she had met in a bar.
According to Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams, investigators interviewed the 21-year-old woman Sunday evening at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital after she had a sexual assault examination.
The woman told police she'd gone to Brothers Bar and Grill with friends around midnight Sunday. There, she met a 23-year-old man from out of town and began drinking with him. At about 3 a.m., the man invited her back to his hotel room to play video games and smoke marijuana. She told police she made it clear to the man she would not have sex with him.
They returned to the hotel, and she passed out soon after. At about 10 a.m., she woke up on the bed to find the man had his hands inside her underwear. When she confronted him, he told her she hadn't had a problem with it before. The woman told police she was unsure what happened during the course of her stay in the man's hotel room.
She left the hotel and went to a friend's house. After speaking with her friends, she went to Bloomington Hospital.
Police spoke to the suspect via telephone. The man had been visiting Bloomington when the alleged incident happened. He has agreed to meet detectives for an interview.
Police took a similar report from another woman Sunday evening in an unrelated case. This woman did not want to pursue criminal charges and did not go to the hospital.
Kellams says the woman reported meeting a man at a downtown bar and invited him to continue drinking at a friend's residence, where the man spilled alcohol on his pants and put them in the dryer.
The woman told police she passed out and awoke to find him next to her in bed, but she doesn't know what may have happened.
