(BLOOMINGTON) - In observance of Severe Weather Preparedness Week, Monroe County’s tornado sirens will sound as part of two drills next week during Severe Weather Preparedness Week.
The first siren will sound Tuesday morning between 10 and 10:30 a.m., with the second taking place that evening between 7:30 and 8 p.m.
Both times the sirens will activate for five minutes as is standard operating procedure when an actual tornado warning is issued.
"The tornado drills offer an opportunity for schools, businesses and families to discuss and practice their emergency plan," Monroe County Emergency Management Director Allison Moore said in a news release. "It's important that everyone, regardless of where they are when severe weather strikes, is aware of what to do and where to go."
If severe weather is present on Tuesday, the drills will be delayed to Wednesday, March 22, at the same times.
Notifications of the drill will also be sent to subscribers of the Monroe County Alert Program. If residents want to sign up to receive notifications as part of the alert program, they can do so by visiting the Monroe County webpage and clicking on the Citizen Alert tab.
