(BLOOMINGTON) - Four Bloomington firefighters were awarded Lifesaving Bars.
The men received the honors after being principally involved in saving the life of another person and whose personal actions were directly responsible for the lifesaving act.
The crew was dispatched to the Monroe County Courthouse after receiving a call of an unconscious patient.
When firefighters arrived they found the patient in full cardiac arrest. They started CPR, established an airway and shocked the patient with the Automated External Defibrillator. Firefighters then found a pulse and the patient began breathing on their own.
By the time the patient arrived at the hospital, the patient was sitting up and talking to the doctor and was later discharged from the hospital.
Receiving their Lifesaving bars are Sgt. Brett Roberts, Engineer Dustin White, Firefighter Greg Lucas and Firefighter Steven Waldridge.
