(MITCHELL) - A Mitchell man was arrested after Lawrence County police stopped his vehicle for speeding on Rabbitsville Road early this morning.
"On first contact the driver of the vehicle failed to stop and continued to a home in the 100 block of Dale Street in Mitchell," says Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults. "Once at the residence the officer observed a passenger hand something to the female driver.
Chief Deputy Shoults says that 32-year-old Jasen Asbury exited the vehicle and failed to stop at the officer's request to get back inside the vehicle.
Asbury continued to walk toward the door of the home where the officer stopped him.
"Mr. Asbury refused to comply with the officer's commands while attempting to handcuff him, elbowing the officer on the chest several times," Chief Deputy Shoults added. "He was subsequently placed on the ground and complied with the officer and was cuffed."
The officer then determined that Asbury handed the driver a clear baggie that contained 0.2 grams of meth.
During a search of the vehicle, officers found a Hydrocodone pill, a Schedule II controlled substance.
"A 7-year-old child was present in the vehicle and DCS was notified," Chief Deputy Shoults added.
The driver, 27-year-old Lashay Robbins was cited for driving while her driver's license was suspended and false or fictitious registration.
Asbury was arrested on charges of battery on a police officer, resisting arrest by force, possession of meth, other unlisted charges.
