Last updated on Wednesday, March 8, 2017

(IRELAND) - A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a pickup in Ireland Tuesday afternoon.

The Dubois County Sheriff's Department says the call came in at 2:52 p.m.

They say 83-year-old Morris Weidnebenner was found dead in the roadway at the intersection of State Road 56 and County Road 550 West.

Police say he had been struck by a Chevrolet Silverado C1500 driven by 59-year-old David Hall of Petersburg who was traveling westbound on State Road 56.

Hall told police he saw the pedestrian but couldn't stop in time.

Police say that Weidenbenner appeared to be crossing the road when he was struck by the truck.

The Dubois County Sheriff's Department says their investigation has determined it was a tragic accident with no one at fault.

Hill was taken to Memorial Hospital and the vehicle was towed by a Uebelhor and Sons tow truck.

Ireland Volunteer Fire Department assisted in closing State Road 56 while police investigated the incident. Memorial Hospital Emergency Management Services and Ireland First Responders responded to the scene as well.

The Dubois County Sheriff's Department expressed its sympathy to all those involved in the tragic accident.
