(MITCHELL) - The Lawrence County Drug Task Force arrested two people after a traffic stop Monday and found meth.
Police arrested the driver, 37-year-old Jerold W. Leatherman of Mitchell, on charges of possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a common nuisance. His passenger, 32-year-old Heather Ditton of Bloomington, is facing a charge of possession of meth.
According to Lawrence County Sheriff Mike Branham, officers spotted Leatherman's vehicle, a Dodge Caravan, stopped on Frank Street in Mitchell.
When police approached the vehicle they witnessed Leatherman hand something to Ditton.
Ditton was attempting to hide a small plastic bag that had 0.23 grams of meth inside down the front of her pants.
A police dog alerted police to possibly more drugs in the vehicle. Police found a drug paraphernalia, including syringes, in both the driver and passenger doors.
Both individuals were taken to the Lawrence County Jail. Leatherman is being held without bond. He was serving a prison sentence with the Community Transition Program. According to court records, Leather was convicted of the robbery of 60's Eastside in October 2012.
Ditton is being held on a $7,500 surety or $755 cash bond.
