(SALEM) - The Salem High School Champions Together group is organizing a basketball game as a fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics athlete Austin Russell. Russell was diagnosed with bone cancer this winter.
The game is set for Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
This will be a unified game with both teams being made up of high school and Special Olympics basketball players.
The roles of announcer, officials, scorekeepers, coaches, cheerleaders and cheer blocks will all be covered by SHS students.
There is no set admission fee, but donations will be collected. There will also be a raffle to win a basketball signed by this year's record-breaking varsity team and the first ever Washington County Pride team.
A GoFundMe account has been set up for Russell at https://www.gofundme.com/austinscancerjourney to help with his medical expenses.
