(BLOOMINGTON) - No one was hurt after a man allegedly fired a gun in the parking lot of a day care center where his estranged wife works.
Bloomington Police arrested 35-year-old Michael Montgomery on a felony charge of recklessness with a deadly weapon at his home after the incident at the Kids Angels, a day care center and preschool on East Hillside Drive.
A Kids Angels employee called police at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday to report that a shot was fired outside the center.
According to Bloomington Police Department Capt. Steve Kellams, Montgomery had walked into the center, placed a box containing his wedding ring and divorce papers on a banister near the front, looked at his wife and left without saying a word.
After he walked out, his wife heard a gunshot. Another employee went to the door and saw Montgomery getting into his gray Ford Fusion while holding a handgun.
Police found a 9 mm shell casing in the parking lot but are not sure in what direction Montgomery fired the shot. No damage was found to the building, the parking lot or any surrounding cars.
None of the employees or the 2- and 3-year-old children were injured during the incident. Kellams says that at no time were the children in direct danger.
Police surrounded Montgomery's home in the 800 block of West Fairway Lane after the incident. After several attempts to contact him by phone, Montgomery came to the front door and complied with police orders.
He was arrested and taken to Monroe County Correctional Center. Police served a search warrant on the home and found 16 firearms, including handguns, rifles and shotguns.
