(BEDFORD) - Bedford North Lawrence and North Harrison will take the field Friday in BNL’s third annual Coaches vs. Cancer Game.
This year the focus of the baseball game will be pediatric cancer, which strikes millions of innocent children each year.
Pre-game activities will start at approximately 5:30 p.m. with the "Surround the Mound" ceremony honoring cancer survivors and their caretakers, with Riley Osman throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at 6 p.m. Riley is battling leukemia.
The $5 gate admission will be donated to the cause. There will be $1 "In Honor of" placard sales available at the gate, along with other items for sale, and there will be a bucket passed among fans seeking donations.
The goal for the BNL baseball program is to raise $2,500 to be donated to the American Cancer Society.
A "Dunk a Coach" event following the game for any player who raised $50 or more.
Tonight will give the public and players a chance to honor victims and survivors, as well as raise consciousness on the battle against cancer enough to increase donations.
The BNL players will wear yellow jerseys and socks, the colors symbolic of the fight against pediatric cancer, and will be introduced along with whom they are playing in honor of that night. The game will be played with pink wooden bats the first time through the batting order.
