(DUDLEYTOWN) - A 56-year-old Crothersville man was arrested on a murder charge after he allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend’s son on Wednesday night.
Jackson County Police arrested 56-year-old Darrell Edward Stanton at 12:20 a.m. Thursday morning. He was taken to the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown and is being held without bond.
Sheriff Michael Carothers says Stanton shot and killed 35-year-old Dustin L. Robbins. Robbins died of a shotgun wound to the abdomen.
According to a news release, the incident began when Stanton arrived at his girlfriend's mobile home at 8049 East County Road 400 South and found Robbins and his wife there.
Witnesses told police Stanton approached Robbins and threatened him and his wife with a shotgun. Robbins was shot during struggle over the gun.
Officers responded to the report of two males with gunshot wounds at 6:59 p.m. and were told en route that at least one person had suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen. When they arrived, they saw Robbins outside of the home and found Stanton inside.
Robbins was treated by medical personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services and taken to Schneck Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
