(BEDFORD) - An environmental cleanup crew is cleaning up a spill of partially treated wastewater and sludge from GM Bedford Casting Plant that flowed into Bailey’s Branch, a small creek downstream from the plant.
Sandbags were placed in the creek to contain the spill.
The spill, which is isolated, was detected Sunday and residents in the area were notified. The overflow is not a risk to residents, but officials are asking people to stay out of the creek.
Workers are vacuuming the creek to remove pollutants. The cleanup is expected to be completed on Wednesday.
