(OOLITIC) - Delvin Nikirk, former Oolitic Town Council President, will be honored by the Oolitic Festival Committee on Saturday.
Nikirk worked for RCA for 19 years and drove a semi-tractor for 25 years. When he retired from trucking, he started a lawn care service.
Nikirk served on the town council from 1970 to 2017, except for one four-year term he was off the council.
In 2007, he was honored as the grand marshal of the Oolitic Festival parade.
The public is invited to celebrate Nikirk's community service on Saturday from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Oolitic Community Center on Hoosier Avenue.
Glen Gross, who serves on the festival committee and is also a town council member and served with Nikirk, is encouraging the community to come out to the free event and thank Nikirk for his years of service.
