Principals Dan Dyke and Laura Charles Retiring

(BEDFORD) - Bedford North Lawrence High School Principal Dan Dyke and Springville Elementary Principal Laura Charles will retire at end of school year.
The school board in January, approved the hiring of math teacher Cheryl Knight, as a third assistant principal at the high school after Dyke was diagnosed with amyloidosis, a rare disease that occurs when a substance called amyloid builds up in the organs.
She was hired to assist at the school after Dyke told the school board he would need several days off a month for medical treatments.
The school board also approved the following personnel changes:
Retirements
- Joann Fields, Lincoln Elementary Reading Recovery teacher, effective at the end of the current school year.
- Linda Darlene Haste, Bedford Middle School cook, effective at the end of the 2016-2017 academic year.
Resignations
- Jamie Cummings, Dollens Elementary girls basketball coach and Shawswick Middle School seventh-grade girls basketball coach, effective April 4.
- Kyle Grothoff, BNL Latin/language arts teacher, effective at the end of the current school year.
- Kayla Harper, Springville Prime Time and health instructional assistant, effective April 20.
- Amie Jahn, Stalker Student Council sponsor, effective at the end of the current school year.
- Karalyn Landgrebe, Joint Services part-time occupational therapist, effective at the end of the current school year.
- Melissa Nugent, deaf and hard of hearing consultant with Joint Services, effective at the end of the current school year.
- Kimberly Perry, Springville library instructional assistant, effective Monday.
- Jeremy Plummer, North Lawrence Career Center 180-day custodian, effective April 10.
Temporary Contracts
- Ann Pierce, substitute for Amy Waggoner, Needmore first-grade teacher, effective April 17, and continuing through the end of the school year.
- Kimberly Perry, substitute for Jamie Day, Springville second-grade teacher, effective Monday and continuing through the end of the school year.
Support Staff
- Lisa Bartlett, Fayetteville cook, effective Monday.
- Jessica Kelly, NLCS central office assessment coordinator/administrative assistant, effective May 8.
Extra-Curricular
- Jeremy Gilbert, Parkview Intermediate boys basketball coach, effective with the 2017-2018 school year. The assignment will be on a volunteer basis since Gilbert is a member of the school board.

- Whitney Carroll, Parkview administrative assistant, beginning date changed to Monday. (A date of May 26 had been approved at the March 30 board meeting).
- Michele Farlow, Parkview Primary and Fayetteville Elementary resource teacher, beginning May 8 and continuing through May 19.
- Sarah Lee, NLCS curriculum director for grades 6-12, beginning April 3 and continuing on a day-by-day basis.
