(SALEM) - A Salem man was killed in a motorcycle crash Wednesday night.
According to a Washington County Sheriff's Department, the accident was reported after police received a 911 call at approximately 11:17 p.m. saying that a possible motor vehicle accident took place on Franklin School Road near the intersection of Garrison Hollow Road.
At the scene, deputies located a Harley Davidson motorcycle upside down in a ditch off the east side of Franklin School Road.
The driver of the motorcycle, 60-year-old Joseph Lackey of Salem, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Evidence at the scene indicated that Lackey was traveling southbound on Franklin School Road when he failed to negotiate a curve. This failure caused his motorcycle to leave the east (left) side of the roadway and travel into a ditch, where the motorcycle then flipped.
Other agencies responding included Washington County EMS, Franklin Twsp Fire Dept., and the Washington County Coroners Office. Deputy Lucas Gray is the investigating officer.
