(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man was beat up after being falsely accused of taking a woman’s cell phone.
Bloomington Police arrested 24-year-old Kavon E. Blair and 26-year-old Samuel J. Opara Jr. on felony charges of battery causing injury. Both men denied being involved in the fight.
Bloomington police were called to North Illinois Street and West Illinois Court at 7:10 p.m. after a report of a fight.
When police arrived they found a 46-year-old man bleeding from a cut on his forehead. He refused medical treatment.
He told police that he had walked to a woman's residence and asked to borrow her phone and returned it. He then walked to a nearby convenience store.
There three men approached him and asked for the cell phone.
Blair allegedly hit the victim "with something", which cut his forehead and knocked him to the ground.
While the victim was on the ground, Opara allegedly kicked him several times.
Opara is the boyfriend of the woman who thought the 46-year-old man had stolen her phone. Police stated they talked with the woman who told them she'd thought the victim had stolen her phone. The phone was returned by a different person.
