(AVOCA) - Two men were arrested early this morning after a pursuit on State Road 37 near Avoca.
According to Chief Deputy Aaron Shoulds, at 12:15 a.m. an officer on patrol in the area of the Avoca stoplight saw a a black Ford Escape being operated in an erratic manner traveling north on State Road 37.
"The officer became suspicious and ran the vehicles plate and found the plate did not match the vehicle it was on," Chief Deputy Shoults added. "The officer attempted to stop the vehicle and the vehicle continued north on State Road 37 refusing to stop."
The vehicle then turned onto Trogden Lane and still refused to stop. About ½ mile later the driver stopped and jumped from the car and ran, refusing to heed to the officers commands to stop.
"The officer caught the driver after a foot chase at which time the driver was taken into custody after a brief struggle and identified as 33-year-old Elijah Wright."
Other officers arrived on the scene and found 40-year-old Tony Cassidy, of Williams in the front seat of the vehicle.
"During an inventory of the vehicle 8.6 grams of meth was found by the officers, as well as, syringes," Chief Deputy Shoults added.
Wright, of 101 S. Curry Pike, was transported to IU Health after officers became concerned about his "erratic behavior" where he was examined and released and taken to jail on charges of maintaining a common nuisance, operating a vehicle while never licensed, resisting arrest by fleeing in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest by fleeing and resisting arrest by force, possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also wanted on a warrant for battery causing bodily injury.
Cassidy is facing charges of visiting a common nuisance and possession of meth.
