United Way Of South Central Indiana Awards 10 Nonprofits $185,900

(BEDFORD) - The United Way of South Central Indiana awarded 10 nonprofits in Lawrence and Orange County a total of $185,900.
Lorri Hamer, United Way of SCI executive director, told the Times-Mail the campaign received a windfall check from a corporation that was added to the campaign's total that made the agency increases possible.
Among agencies receiving an increase was the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County, which received $70,000 - an increase of about $20,000 over 2016. Officials say the money will be used to support the Thornton Teen Center and establish a youth program at Mitchell Junior High School.
Other agencies receiving increases were:
- Hills PACT, domestic violence service will receive $20,000.
- Lawrence InterFaith Endeavor, a food pantry, was allocated $16,603.
- LIFE received $22,000, an increase of $4,500 from 2016.
- The Paoli Senior Center received $2,100, which is about a $1,000 increase. The increase will fund its Hello Seniors program.
- Kindergarten Countdown, which are summer learning camps to prepare up to 80 children for kindergarten, received $19,000 mostly through grants.
- Community Impact was allocated $5,000 to help with ongoing community projects.
- Adventure Grants: $6,000
- After-school program at the Boys & Girls Club: $40,000
- Disaster services by the Red Cross: $13,500
- Emergency social services at Salvation Army: $13,000
- Homebound and nursing home visits, Paoli Senior Center: $2,100
- Lincoln/Stalker after-school program, by the Boys & Girls Club: $10,000
- Respite Services from LifeDesigns: $2,800
- Senior Citizens of Lawrence County: $3,500
- Community Health and Wellness: $9,000
- Thornton Teen Center: $20,000
