(MITCHELL) - Firefighters contained a gas spill Friday night at Gasoline Alley.
At 10:52 p.m. firefighters from Mitchell and Marion Volunteer Fire Department were called to Gasoline Alley in the 3960 block of State Road 37 after a truck backed into a gas pump.
Mitchell Fire Department Assistant Chief Fred Cassidy says the emergency switch on the pump stopped the gas from leaking, but not before 25 to 50 gallons of gas spilled out of the gas pump.
Mitchell and Indiana State Police closed the northbound lane of State Road 37 as a precaution and Bloomington Township's Fire Department hazmat team were called to assisted with the clean up. Lawrence County Emergency Management Director Valerie Luchauer also responded to the scene to oversee the clean up.
No one was injured and firefighters were able to contain the spill to the gas stations drainage system.
The gas station re-opened Saturday morning.
