(BEDFORD) - Half-day preschool classes will be expanded at Parkview Primary School when school resumes due to an increased number of First Step enrollments.
To ensure that the students are safe and effectively served, Dr. Dykstra, Director of Joint Services, recommended the creation of another section of half-day preschool at Parkview Primary beginning with the 2017-2018 academic year.
The North Lawrence school board approved the expansion and hiring of a new teacher at their meeting Thursday night.
"Based upon trending enrollment data from previous years, Dr. Dykstra and I anticipate that there may be a need to also create another one-half day section of preschool during the 2017-2018 academic year, if the enrollment in the program continues to increase. At the present time, this is a one- half day teaching assignment, and the position will be supported by the General Fund," North Lawrence Community Schools Superintendent Gary Conner told board members. "In the past, school years have begun with seven preschool sections and that an eighth later was added to accommodate increasing enrollment. This year we anticipate immediately needing a ninth section."
