(BEDFORD) - Bedford Police are investigating a shooting at IU Health Bedford Hospital.
Bedford Police say the shooting was an attempted suicide. No one else was threatened by the man, who was flown by medical helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital with what is believed to be a non-life threatening injury.
"He was alert and talking while I was in the emergency room," says Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley. "There was no criminal intent."
According to the Lawrence County Police log, officers received a report from the man's wife at 10:02 a.m. reporting her husband had left home around 8:10 a.m. Monday morning and lied about where he was going. The man left behind his cell phone and had taken a gun from their home on Hayes Road.
The woman was concerned about her husband's well being saying he had been depressed the last few weeks.
The log says the man has suffered a self-inflected gunshot wound to the chest. The shooting happened at IU Health Hospital in the parking lot at the former entrance to the emergency room.
