(BLOOMINGTON) - A Mitchell man was arrested Wednesday after police say he caused a crash that killed a Bloomington man last May.
32-year-old Ryan M. Kimbrel is facing two felony counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and one count of felony OWI resulting in the death of James Sprague of Bloomington.
Kimbrel's arrest stems from a three-vehicle accident on the morning of May 2, 2016 at the intersection of Tapp Road and State Road 37.
The crash investigation revealed that Kimbrel was traveling northbound in a 2005 Hyundai sedan on SR 37 and drove the Hyundai from the left lane into the right lane where vehicles were stopped for a red light.
Kimbrel failed to stop at the red light and struck James Sprague's vehicle on the driver's side door. Kimbrel had sideswiped another vehicle driven by 31-year-old Rachel Whitson of Bedford during the crash, however she was not critically injured.
Both Sprague and Kimbrel were transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Toxicology results show Kimbrel had been operating a motor vehicle with controlled substances in his blood at the time of the crash.
Agencies that assisted in the investigation were the Monroe County Sheriff's Department, Bloomington Police Department and the Perry/Clear Creek Township Fire Department.
