(BEDFORD) - TASC Director Melanie Hacker reported ridership on Bedford’s public bus system is up 7 percent from last year with more than 84,100 passengers using the service.
With that increase the bus service is rushed to see riders make it to their destination in a timely manner. Hacker says it is not unusual to receive more than 300 calls a day, with 90 percent of those calls requesting same-day service.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has recommended the bus service change its policy to only guarantee timely pickup on calls placed at least 24 hours in advance.
Bedford is one of just two cities in Indiana that have guarantee same-day service. Seymour is the other one.
