(BEDFORD) - The 18th Annual Lawrence County Safe Night ended with a fireworks lighting up the night sky.
Around 3,500 people attended the free event Saturday at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds.
The event; which attempts to curb youth's interest in tobacco, alcohol and drugs; kicked off at 6 p.m.
Emily Calvin, this year's Safe Night coordinator, says she was pleased with the turn out.
"It was more than we had last year, at 3,000 people attending," she added. "It has been a great night. I can't thank everyone who participated making tonight a success."
Calvin hopes some of the messages shared will prevent the youth of Lawrence County from experimenting with drugs, alcohol, or them from lighting up that first cigarette. Families were also able to learn about the many resources offered in Lawrence County.
But along with strong messages, families enjoyed free treats and took home some great prizes.
