(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after he assaulted a woman during an argument over a cell phone.
According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers were called to an apartment in the 900 block of Lincoln Avenue at 12:56 p.m. Sunday after a woman called 911 to report she had been battered.
When police arrived at the apartment building, the woman told them her and 61-year-old Sammie Furlow had been arguing over his cell phone, so she left the apartment.
But when she returned the argument continued.
"She alleges the cell phone was on a kitchen table and she walked past it and that is when Mr. Furlow allegedly struck her in the right side of the face," Chief Parsley says. "She then fled out the back door."
That is when she says, Furlow struck her twice in the back.
The woman fled to a neighbor's house and called 911.
Police arrived and arrested Furlow on a charge of domestic battery.
