(BEDFORD) - Retired Indiana Senator and owner of Steele & Steele LLC Brent Steele and Astronaut Gus Grissom will be this year’s Grand Marshals of the Limestone Heritage Festival Parade.
Brent has been married to his wife, Sally, for 49 years. Together they have 8 grandchildren from their four boys; Sean, Aaron, Rhett and Gavin.
The theme of the parade this year is "Oh, The Places You'll Go," based on the book by Dr. Seuss. Steele said he was inspired by his father and brother to "...love the law" leading him to his law practice and political career.
Gus Grissom was one of the original NASA Project Mercury Astronauts, a United States Air Force test pilot and a mechanical engineer. He will be honored as Grand Marshal through his 3rd cousin, Steve Grissom.
Steve Grissom lives in Mitchell and has worked in Mitchell Community Schools for 15 years.
Gus was born in Mitchell and attended Mitchell High School where he met his wife, Betty Moore.
Steve Grissom says that "Gus was a pioneer. He was not afraid to take a chance. He understood you had to stick your neck out to get places. "
Gus was the second American to fly in space when his space craft, Liberty Bell 7, was launched on July 21, 1961.
The two will lead the Limestone Heritage Festival Parade this Saturday, July 1st starting at 6 p.m.
