(GREENE CO.) - The Greene County Sheriff’s Department reports that five people, including two children, were injured Saturday morning in a head-on collision on State Road 54.
Authorities say 81-year-old Sandra Clifford of Linton was traveling east on State Road 54 when she veered off the road to avoid hitting a vehicle in front of her that was making an abrupt turn.
When she returned to the highway, she over-corrected and entered the westbound lane hitting an SUV driven by 60-year-old Cheryl Johnson of Bloomfield.
Clifford suffered multiple severe injuries and was taken by ambulance to Greene County General Hospital.
Johnson, who also suffered multiple severe injuries, was flown by medical helicopter to Regional Hospital in Terre Haute.
A 12-year-old female passenger in Clifford's vehicle complained of back pain and was taken by ambulance to Greene County General.
Two passengers in Johnson's SUV, 53-year-old Jonas Johnson and a seven-year-old boy, both suffered multiple injuries were taken by ambulance to Greene County General.
Both Cheryl and Jonas Johnson were entrapped in their vehicle after it rolled onto the driver's side and had to be freed from the vehicle.
