(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was injured after his wheelchair was struck by a pickup truck on 16th Street near Burger King on Wednesday afternoon.
According to a Bedford Police report, a 17-year-old male was stopped in the northbound lane of Central Avenue at a red light and was waiting to turn right onto 16th Street.
The teen told police he looked both ways to ensure eastbound traffic on 16th Street was clear so he could turn right on the red light. As he proceeded forward, his 1995 Ford F-150 struck a motorized wheelchair driven by 78-year-old Harold Stone.
Police say Stone was attempting to cross at the cross walk from east to west across Central Avenue with a walk sign for pedestrians.
Stone was thrown from the wheel chair and suffered injuries to his right shoulder and arm. He was taken by an AMR ambulance to IU Health Hospital for treatment.
