Opportunities To Experience The Hoosier National Forest

(BEDFORD) - The Hoosier National Forest has a full schedule of opportunities to learn more about nature and get outdoors over the summer months.
- Friday, June 9, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. (EST) - Migratory Birds of Prey at the Monroe County Public Library in Bloomington. Jo Santiago of the Forest Service International Program will present a program about the importance of migratory birds of prey, threats to habitat, and live raptor demonstrations, including: Merlin, a red-tailed hawk, a broad-winged hawk, a gray phase eastern screech owl, and a bald eagle named Freedom on loan from the American Eagle Foundation
- Saturday, June 17, 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. (EST) - Get Outdoors Day at Murray Forest Park in Bedford. Free event for kids of all ages! Hosted by the Hoosier National Forest, this event will host nearly 30 different outdoor activities for kids, including horseback riding, archery, mountain biking, and more. Murray Forest Park is located in Bedford next to Stalker Elementary School.
- Sunday, June 18, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (EST) - Living history interpretation at Brooks Cabin. The Brooks Cabin is located just off SR 446 in Monroe County.
- Saturday, June 24, 9 a.m.to 1 p.m. (CST) Adventures With Nature at Tipsaw Lake Recreation Area. The theme for this year's free, family event is "Let's Go Hunting." Tipsaw Recreation Area is located in Perry County, six miles south of Interstate 64.
All events are free, although a gate fee of $5 per vehicle will be charged at the Hardin Ridge Recreation Area and the Indian-Celina Recreation Area. While the Tipsaw Recreation Area normally charges the same entrance fee, a special rate of $3 per car will be offered to anyone attending Adventures With Nature.
