(BEDFORD) - Meagan Brown, Community Manager for the Lawrence County Relay for Life, said she was thrilled by the commitment of all Relay for Life volunteers and participants this past Saturday.
"I just love the passion of the Lawrence county volunteers. And if you noticed, in some Relays, people will pick up and leave before the closing. And everyone that set up during the day for Relay stayed until the closing ceremony was over. And that just kind of shows the teams that are involved are dedicated."
The Relay for Life had dedicated laps for Survivors, Care Givers and First Responders to name a few.
Super Oldies 105.5 WQRK provided tailgate themed games and entertainment.
The Lawrence County Relay for Life is about $13 thousand away from their goal of $45 thousand. However, donations will still be accepted until October.
Last year Lawrence County Relay for Life surpassed their goal of $40 thousand, but not until much later in the year.
Brown said it's important to note that it took until November to hit $42 thousand and that she is positive they will hit their goal again this year.
"Lawrence County is really great about being dedicated to that number, because it's a volunteer chosen number. Just in general, Relay [for Life] and American cancer society would just not be successful without the help with generous donors and volunteers. And that really shines through in Lawrence County."
"Even if that number doesn't hit, we still have next season and we're still staying positive."
