(BLOOMINGTON) - A half-mile stretch of State Road 45 East was closed from more than seven hours after a car struck a utility pole on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Monroe County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Russell Brummett, deputies were called to the accident at 1:20 p.m. on State Road 45, between Russell Road and Martin Drive, after a report a vehicle had struck a utility pole.
Police say a 17-year-old female driving was attempting to negotiate a curve when she lost control of the 2005 Chrysler Sebring she was driving and crashed into the utility pole, causing power lines to fall into the roadway.
A Duke Energy crew was called to the scene to deal with the downed lines.
The teen suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to IU Health Bloomington Hospital where she was treated and released.
The highway reopened around 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
