(BEDFORD) - An Austin woman was arrested on drug charges after police were called about a suspicious person in the parking lot of Mamma’s Restaurant on Tuesday.
Bedford Police officers arrested 48-year-old Melissa Bowling on charges of possession of meth, possession of a controlled substance and maintaining a common nuisance.
At 11:32 a.m., Bedford Police Department officers went to Mamma's Restaurant at 1707 M St. after a report of a possible intoxicated woman hanging around vehicles in the parking lot.
According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, when officers arrived they found a man passed out in a white car and, after some difficulty, police were able to wake the man.
While speaking to the male, Bowling approached the car.
"She gave consent to search the vehicle where police found several different types of pills," Chief Parsley says. "They also found a white-powdery substance that tested positive for meth."
The man in the vehicle became ill, and he was taken to by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
Bowling was arrested and is being held on a $7,500 surety, or $755 cash bond.
