(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was injured after a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Mitchell Road and 32nd Street, Saturday afternoon.
According to a Bedford Police report, 49-year-old Robert Sullivan of Bedford was traveling north in a 1997 Chevrolet truck on Mitchell Road. At the same time 56-year-old Mathew Mabrey of Bedford had stopped his 2006 Ford Ranger and was facing west in the exit of Lawrence County Recycling.
Police say Sullivan's truck ran off the roadway and struck Mabrey's Ranger.
Sullivan told police something happened to his truck causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
Mabrey told police that he saw Sullivan's truck coming at him, but there was nothing he could do to avoid the accident.
A witness did tell police that they heard a loud popping sound just before impact.
Sullivan complained of leg and head pain and was having trouble breathing. Mabrey was not injured during the incident.
Police say due to the severity of the injuries both drivers were asked to submit to a blood draw.
Assisting at the scene was Bedford Fire Department extrication unit, an IU Health and AMR ambulance and Weavers and Mikels towing services.
