(BRYANTSVILLE) - A Bloomington man was killed after he drove his motorcycle across the center line and struck a truck on US 50 West near Kozy Fireplace Road this morning.
According to a Lawrence County Police report, 59-year-old Roger Newhart of Bloomington died of internal head injuries.
Police say that Newhart was traveling west on US 50 West when for an unknown reason he drove his 2007 Honda motorcycle across the center line and struck an eastbound 2012 Chevrolet truck driven by 33-year-old Anthony Armstrong of Orleans.
Armstrong told police he attempted to avoid the accident but was unable to.
The motorcycle came to a stop on the north side of the highway. The truck ran off the north side of the road, struck a ditch and trees and then came to a stop.
Armstrong complained of pain after suffering injuries to his knee and lower leg and foot.
Investigating the scene was the Fatal Crash Team, which is made up of officers who bring various expertise in investigating fatal accidents. The team includes an accident re-constructionist, a detective and deputies.
Assisting at the scene was an AMR ambulance, Bedford Fire Department extrication unity, Huron Volunteer Fire Department, the Lawrence County coroner and Mitchell Police Department.
