(BEDFORD) - All donations to Becky’s Place will be doubled up to $5,000 thanks to a generous donor until July 31st.
"We had an anonymous donor that wanted to donate to [Becky's Place] in remembrance of one of our residents that passed away not too long ago and one of their family members," said Corrina Hayes, Program Director at Becky's Place.
One of the women that will be honored through this generous gift is Thelma.
"Thelma was one of those people that would worry about somebody else before she worried about herself," Hayes said.
Thelma came to Becky's Place looking for help to get back on her feet. After finally living on her own, Thelma passed, but not before she was able to give back to Becky's Place.
"She rolled her little wheel chair in here and said, 'I've got something for you.' And she gave me a card and it was $600. She said, 'Up until about a year ago, I wanted to die. And Becky's Place saved my life.'" Hayes said.
In order to help women like Thelma, it takes more than $240k annually for Becky's place to help women find jobs and permanent housing.
"We're doing pretty good right now. We've got 25 more days until its over, so we're just trying to get in as much as we can."
Becky's Place is a safe place for homeless women that provides shelter and creates the possibility of moving toward a life of self-sufficiency. Becky's place offers shelter, meals, case management, support services, counseling, educational resources, vocational training, life skills and a compassionate, dedicate staff and volunteers.
