(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Police continue to investigate a double fatality Monday on State Road 37 at Wesley Chapel Road.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene after receiving the call at 5:18 p.m.
According to a Lawrence County Police report, 68-year-old Harvey Helms, of Bloomington was traveling west on Wesley Chapel Road and was crossing the southbound lane of State Road 37 when he failed to yield and entered into the northbound lane of State Road 37 into the path of a 1995 Ford Mustang driven by 24-year-old Corey Ricketts, of Bloomington.
Police say the Mustang struck the driver's side of Helm's 2010 Ford Escape and was pushed 167 feet south across the median and into the northbound lane of State Road 37.
The Mustang came to a stop near the edge of the southbound lane of State Road 37, 106 feet from the point of impact.
Helms was pronounced dead at the scene.
His front right passenger, 100-year-old Marion Douglas, of Bloomington, suffered internal injures and was flown by medical helicopter from the scene. He died from his injures.
A passenger in the rear right seat, 82-year-old Ellen Helms, of Bloomington, suffered internal injuries and was rushed from the scene.
Ricketts, suffered multiple fractures and dislocations and was flown from the scene to the University of Louisville Hospital.
His passengers 18-year-old Shanowha Orman, of Harrodsburg, suffered abrasions. And 3-year-old Jessy Ricketts, of Bloomington, who was in a car seat, suffered head injuries and was flown by helicopter to Norton Children's Hospital.
