(DAVIESS CO.) - A potentially explosive situation had police and firefighters evacuating homes within a mile area after a truck caught on fire at the Cannelburg Mine near the intersection of Old Highway 50 and County Road 800 East Thursday.
At 11:30 a.m. firefighters with Montgomery and Cannelburg fire departments along with the Daviess County Sheriff's Department deputies determined the truck was carrying fuel and fertilizer that mine workers mix to make explosives.
Daviess County Emergency Management also responded to the scene.
Because of the danger to firefighters, officers and residents a one mile radius was evacuated and all area roadways were closed. Officials then let the fire burn out.
The fire was limited to the truck cab and stopped burning around 1 p.m. at which time the evacuation was lifted.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
