(SOLSBERRY) - A Solsberry man was arrested after police say he punched a woman in the face and threatened to kill her.
Greene County Police arrested 36-year-old Clinton James on felony charges of domestic battery with a prior conviction, intimidation with a prior conviction and strangulation. James has a record of domestic violence convictions in both Greene and Lawrence counties.
He appeared in Greene County Superior Court Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to the crime. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim and was appointed Alan Baughman as his public defender. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 18 at 2:30 p.m. for a pretrial conference.
According to Greene County Police, charges were filed against James after police were requested to conduct a welfare check on the victim on June 16th.
The victim told police she and James had been talking and when she "began to speak her mind" Clinton became angry and punched her in the face.
The woman says this is not the first time James has hurt her. She told police that two weeks before this incident, James had choked her and threw her around the kitchen and had hit her with the butt end of a chainsaw.
He threatened the victim that if she ever called police she would never talk again.
