(MITCHELL) - It was the best year ever for donations at the 7th Annual Mitchell 500 Hillbilly Race Saturday on Teke Burton Drive.
Organizer for the event Jodi Brock says they raised $1,084 during the event.
A pair of siblings built a non-motorized car to zoom down a 500-foot hill on Teke Burton Drive by the force of gravity to take the titles in their age group.
West Baden siblings Jathan and Makenna Stiles took first-place victories in their respective age groups.
Hillbilly 500 winners:
5 to 8-year-olds: Makenna Stiles
9 to 13-year-olds: Jathan Stiles
14 to 17-year-olds: Elliot McCorkle
18 and older: Jamie McCorkle
Mayor's choice: Kaden Mikels
The fee for this race - one canned good per person - was donated to Bertha's Mission.
All cash proceeds from vendors and road blocks will go to the Mitchell schools, allowing school personnel to buy clothes, utensils and whatever supplies are needed to assist children in need. The Mitchell Lions Club, sponsors the "Lions Den" - a place in Mitchell schools where students can get the things they need.
