(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University students are returning to college this week.
The official move-in date is Wednesday, but flocks of students are arriving every day. Classes start next week.
Official say about 4,600 students are expected to move into residence halls early, with many arriving this weekend.
As students return to campus this week, officials are asking residents to the area around campus to avoid campus for the next week if possible, especially 10th Street between the Ind. 45/46 Bypass and Woodlawn Avenue, and Third Street between Union Street and Jordan Avenue.
On Wednesday, special traffic patterns will be in place on the following roads between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.:
The Indiana Department of Transportation announced that four lanes of traffic are scheduled to be open from now until Sept. 5 on State Road 37 from Sample Road north to the Indian Creek bridge just south of Martinsville.
The opening of these lanes is to accommodate increased traffic as Indiana University students begin arriving for the fall semester. The additional lanes will also be open for the August 31th season opener of IU football against Ohio State.
