(BEDFORD) - An Orleans man was arrested after police say he left his children home alone.
Lawrence County Police arrested 29-year-old Robert Bishop of Orleans on two counts of neglect of a dependent.
Sheriff Mike Branham says that on August 8, Bishop was stopped for a traffic violation at 10:40 p.m. and arrested for driving while his driver's license was suspended with a prior conviction.
While at the jail, Bishop called a family member to go to his home and pick up his children, says Sheriff Branham. When the family member arrived they discovered the children had been left alone.
"We didn't know at the time of his arrest that he had left his children alone," says Sheriff Branham. "We learned about that on August 23rd after the children were interviewed at Susie's Place."
Susie's Place is a child advocacy center.
Bishop is the subject of another on-going investigation.
"This charge stems from an investigation that we are in the middle of." Sheriff Branham added. "That investigation is on-going and I can not comment on it right now."
