(SEYMOUR) - A Seymour man has died and a woman was hospitalized after a house fire on Monday night in Seymour.
When police and firefighters arrived smoke and fire was bellowing out of the one-story house making it hard for firefighters to get inside.
Officials say 37-year-old Nicholas East died after being pulled from inside the attached garage at the home at 316 Kessler Boulevard.
Seymour Cpl. Devin Cornwell and Officers Ben Miller and Devlin McMindes forced the garage door open enough for Miller to crawl inside and pulled the man out from the smoke filled garage
Police say 37-year-old Crystal Beem came out the front door of the home.
Beem was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene by medical personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services and then transported to Schneck Medical Center for treatment.
It took firefighters more than 30 minutes to extinguish the fire.
The Indiana State Fire Marshal investigators were able to determine the fire started in a bedroom on the north side of the wood-frame home.
