(FREETOWN) - A Jackson County man is in custody after police found evidence he was engaged in deviate sexual conduct with a child under the age of 14.
Indiana State Police Detective Stacy Brown along with investigators from the Jackson and Owen County Prosecutor's Offices concluded a lengthy criminal investigation that resulted in the arrest of 30-year-old Cory D. Jones of Freetown on two felony charges of child molesting, two felony counts of child pornography in Jackson County and in Owen County Jones is facing two felony charges of child solicitation and a misdemeanor charge of intimidation.
In the Jackson County investigation police discovered that in 2011 Jones, who was 21 years old at the time, participated in sexual deviate conduct by a child under 14.
This year police discovered Jones had possession of photos that depicted sexual conduct by a child less than 12-years-old.
A separate 2017 criminal investigation in Owen County led investigators to find evidence that on two separate occasions Jones had knowingly solicited a child to engage in sexual conduct.
State police say Jones spent between six and eight hours daily viewing girls' social media and asked some of them to perform sexual acts for him.
While police were looking for Jones on Monday, he called law enforcement to say he was "in Texas, working for a construction company repairing the damage from Hurricane Harvey."
Jones was arrested minutes later at his mother's residence in Lawrence County by Trooper Sam Gillespie. He was transported to, processed and lodged at the Jackson County Jail.
If convicted, Jones could serve up to 70 years in prison.
