(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Parks Department offers many opportunities for the community to get active this fall.
Join the Bedford Parks Department in their campaign to provide health and wellness opportunities for individuals in the community.
The activities and information are listed below:
Men's Basketball League
The Men's Basketball League will consist of a 12 game season. The teams will be placed in two divisions based on the roster submitted at the time of registration.
All games will be played at Bedford and & Shawswick Middle School on Wednesday evenings at 6:30, 7:30, and 8:30 p.m .
The teams will compete for first, second and third place awards that will be awarded at the end of the season. It is a non-officiated league, but will be supervised by court monitors from the Parks Department.
All players must be at least 15 years old.
The entry fee is $150 per team and is due with a roster by October 27.
Women's and Co-ed Volleyball Leagues
The Parks Department is also taking registrations for women's and co-ed volleyball leagues now. The leagues will be played at Parkview Primary and Stalker Gymnasiums.
The Women's league will be played on Wednesday nights at 6 , 7, and 8 p.m. while the co-ed league will be played on Monday nights at the same times.
Entry fees are $100 and they include a 12 match season and court monitor for each match. Fees are due with a roster by 4 p.m. on October 13th. All players must be at least 15 years old.
Walking Groups Available
Are you interested in walking in your neighborhood, and don't want to walk alone? Participants will be able to walk routes that have been mapped out by the Parks Department Staff.
It is free to participate and the walks will be held each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday at 8 a.m. Meet at the Parks Office in Thornton Park.
Evolution of Kickboxing
The Bedford Parks Department introduces the evolution of kickboxing to the Bedford Community. The class is a combination of dance and kickboxing moves and cardio aerobic activity all while moving to heart pounding, high energy music.
Moves are made for anyone and the format is setup to give participants a total body workout. There are modifications that will suit any fitness level.
Mallory Slaughter will be teaching this on Thursday nights at 6:30 p.m. at Thornton Shelter.
Cost is $5 per session.
Zumba
Certified Zumba instructors, Susan Blythe and Deborah Craton, teach and instruct class participants in the Latin dance inspired exercise method of Zumba.
Classes are Thursday nights at 5:30 p.m. and last approximately one hour at the Wilson Park Shelter House.
Class fee is $5 per session and is payable at the Parks Office or over the phone by credit or debit card.
The instructors do not accept payments on site for this class.
