(LYONS) - A Lyons man was arrested on a warrant after police found a toddler wandering about a quarter of a mile from his home.
Police arrested 25-year-old Charles Allen, on warrant charging him with a Level 6 felony of neglect of a dependant. He posted 10 percent of a $4,000 bond and was released from the Greene County Jail. He is scheduled for an initial hearing on Sept. 21.
The incident happened on August 15th.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the toddler was found alone with a puppy in the 230 block of West Board Street.
Police found the toddler who was dirty and had suffered an abrasion on their upper right arm after a person reported seeing the toddler walking onto Highway 67 near the post office in Lyons. The witness took the toddler to the gas station on West Broad Street and bought the child a drink and contacted police after not finding any adults around.
Allen told police the toddler was watching Scooby-Doo when he went to use the bathroom and when he came out of the bathroom he found the door open.
Charles told police he went to the neighbor's house looking for the toddle and to a sand area where he had taken the child and then began walking up and down the road and then started walking towards the gas station.
Witnesses told police Allen appeared to have a nonchalant attitude about the toddler missing.
Appeared to have a "disengaged attitude" towards the situation. The witness reportedly also observed Allen to be nonchalant about the situation when he first met with Allen.
