(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County and Conservation officers rescued a Bedford woman Monday morning after a resident in the 910 block of Peaceful Valley Road reported hearing a woman screaming.
At 6 a.m. the resident reported hearing a woman screaming about God and repenting.
When officers arrived they learned that a 31-year-old woman had used a boat to navigate the White River to the other side of the bank.
"Once on the bank the boat floated away leaving the woman stranded," says Lawrence County Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults.
Officers contacted Indiana Conservation officers who brought a boat to the scene and were able to get the woman on board and transport her to safety and an awaiting ambulance.
The woman was taken to Bloomington Hospital for a medical evaluation.
The boat that had floated downstream was later recovered by Conservation officers and returned to the owner.
