(SALEM) - Saturday evening at 8:37 pm, Washington County Police received a 911 call of a shooting at the intersection of Delaney Park and East Nicholson Hollow roads near Salem.
When Washington County deputies arrived, they found 24-year-old Devin Roll of Salem lying in a ditch next to the roadway with a gunshot wound to his leg. Also at the scene was 52-year-old Robert Abner and his wife Anita Abner, both of Vallonia.
Washington County deputies contacted the Indiana State Police to assist them in the investigation.
An Indiana State Police Crime Scene Investigator and detective arrived at the scene and spoke with all three.
Police say Robert Abner and Devin Roll became engaged in a road rage incident which began on State Road 135 near Salem. The incident came to a head at the intersection of Delaney Park and East Nicholson Hollow roads near Salem after the two men exited their vehicles and got into a fist fight. During the fight, Anita Abner got involved in the scuffle and was injured.
Robert Abner retrieved a handgun and shot Devin Roll in the leg.
Devin Roll and Anita Abner were both flown by air ambulance to the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, KY with non-life threatening injuries.
Robert Abner was transported to the St Vincent's Hospital in Salem with non-life threatening injuries. After his release from the hospital he was arrested and taken to the Washington County Jail on charges of criminal recklessness with a firearm and aggravated battery.
This investigation is continuing.
