Last updated on Monday, September 18, 2017
(LOOGOOTEE) - Two credit card skimmers were found at a Loogootee gas station on Thursday.
According to a news release from Indiana State Police Post in Jasper, employees at Chuckles Gas Station on Broadway Street reported that skimming devices were removed from their gas pumps.
ISP detectives are investigating the case.
"At this point, detectives and gas station employees do not know how long the skimmers were installed," the release says.
Police are advising people to:
- Monitor online banking and credit card accounts on a daily basis. If there is an unfamiliar charge, contact the bank or credit card company immediately.
- Protect card numbers, PINs and the card itself. Cover the keypad when entering an important number.
- Touch the opening of a card reader and try to wiggle it to see if it is temporarily placed in the machine. ATMs and card readers should not have loose parts.
- Check to see the display has been broken, cracked or misaligned. Also, check the labels and stickers to see if they've been tampered with.
- If you find a a suspected skimming device, notify the employees and report it to law enforcement.
