(BLOOMINGTON) - The City of Bloomington Utilities has issued a sanitary sewer overflow advisory for the following areas after an overflow was confirmed on Monday in the following areas:
After determining the SSO was caused by a failing transformer in the control panel of a lift station, CBU crews replaced the transformer.
The SSO lasted approximately 2 hours and the flow was estimated at 600 gallons.
CBU crews followed the proper clean-up protocol. However, residents in the aforementioned areas are advised to take precautions when coming into contact with untreated sewage that may have accumulated as a result of this overflow. Any individual who has come into direct contact with untreated sewage is advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly.
Reducing the number of sanitary sewer overflows is a major emphasis of CBU's commitment to create a more efficient and reliable wastewater collection and treatment system.
The City of Bloomington Utilities is also committed to transparency with respect to the residents of this community. This includes issuing public advisories in the event that a confirmed sanitary sewer overflow has occurred.
