(WASHINGTON) - One apartment was destroyed and another heavily damaged in a fire Monday night on East South Street in Washington.
Firefighters arrived on the scene at 11:15 p. to find smoke bellowing out the third floor. The fire started after someone left an item on the stove.
Fire Chief Dave Rhoads says Apartment 5 was destroyed while while Apartment 6 sustained lots of damage. The rest of the apartment building, owned by Kevin Bowen, was said to have moderate damage displacing residents.
Chief Rhoads says everyone except those in Apartments 5 and 6 will be able to return in a few days. The Red Cross is assisting those in need.
Firefighters were on the scene until around 2 a.m. this morning.
No one was injured.
