(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after he allegedly punched his wife during a domestic fight on Sunday afternoon.
According to Indiana State Trooper Robert Whyte, Lawrence County police were alerted to the domestic dispute around 3:40 p.m. when a friend of the victim called police reporting the couple were fighting outside of the home on the front porch at 163 Old Farm Road.
Lawrence County Police were tied up on emergency calls in the Springville area, so they requested Oolitic Police officer Toby Gerkin to handle the call.
When Gerkin arrived he requested the assistance from Indiana State Police. Trooper Whyte responded.
"Officer Gerkin had Brandon Miller in handcuffs," Whyte says. "I spoke to Miller's wife who had suffered a bruised eye. The blood vessels were busted."
The victim told police her injury was an accident.
"She stated her and her husband had been in an argument and were wrestling in the bedroom over a cell phone when she was accidentally hit in the eye."
Trooper Whyte interviewed the children in the home, their grandmother and a family friend who had called police and determined that 35-year-old Brandon Miller had punched his wife in the face.
"I was able to determine this was no accident," Trooper Whyte says. "He did in fact punch her in the eye."
Miller was arrested on a charge of domestic battery and transported to the Lawrence County Jail.
